Proud to support women in construction: Dorset’s Wyatt Homes marks International Women’s Day

To mark International Women’s Day (March 8th), Poole based Wyatt Homes is highlighting the achievements of one of its employees, Alexandra Negoita.

Alexandra, 27, a Solent University graduate in Architectural Technology and Design, is forging a career as an Assistant Technical Coordinator in the traditionally male-dominated construction industry.

According to the Office for National Statistics, just 14.7% of all construction industry employees in the UK are women, with even fewer in leadership positions. However, Alexandra’s success is a testament to the growing presence and influence of women in the industry.

Alexandra’s passion for the building trade was fostered at an early age, having grown up in a family in the design and construction industry in Slobozia, Ialomita, Romania.

She said;

“Working on residential projects was one of the main reasons I wanted to join Wyatt Homes. In my role I get to work on a variety of projects and be part of something bigger.

“I love being able to help build homes for people who need them and contribute to the growth of local communities. It’s a great way to combine my technical skills with my passion for making a positive impact.”

Having moved to the UK on her own to pursue her dream, she is well placed to appreciate the struggle faced by anyone trying to break the mould.

She continued;

“Moving to another country on your own to start from scratch somehow forces you to work even harder, as you can only rely on yourself.

“My advice to other women considering a career in construction is to go for it. Hard work pays off. Have confidence in yourself and your abilities and you will succeed.

“Creating better and more diverse job postings, providing mentorship and networking opportunities, and increasing diversity in leadership roles are just a few initiatives that can help make the industry more inclusive. With these initiatives in place, the construction industry can attract more women and create a more inclusive working environment.”

Tara Kelly, Sales Director at Wyatt Homes added;

“Alexandra is a perfect example of how hard work and ambition can build the foundations in whatever career path you choose.

“At Wyatt we are firm believers of equity and equality and are incredibly proud of all our staff and the culture we have developed within the business. We operate as a close team where everyone feels valued and heard regardless of their role or background.”
