Construction of the first homes in a new neighbourhood to the north of Houghton Regis is now underway, with the first properties due to go on sale in the New Year.
Bellway at Linmere will comprise the first 153 homes in the new Linmere urban extension of up to 5,150 homes, alongside shops, schools, businesses, community facilities and open space.
The Bellway development – which will include a mix of three and four-bedroom houses and one and two-bedroom apartments – will take shape alongside acres of landscaped parkland and the new Farmstead community hub and visitor centre.
Luke Southgate, Sales Director of Bellway Northern Home Counties, said: “We have now started work on site at Bellway at Linmere and are excited to be the first housebuilder providing new homes in this attractive and ambitious new community in Houghton Regis.
“Once the wider development is complete, every new house at Linmere will be within a five-minute walk of public green space, and within walking distance of a purpose-built school and on-site community and leisure facilities.
“Bellway at Linmere will also be very well connected. It’s a five-minute drive from Houghton Regis town centre, just a mile to junction 11A of the M1, and just five miles from Luton railway station, from where you can get to London St Pancras in as little as 22 minutes.
“There’s a huge demand for homes in this area. Linmere is a great opportunity, whether for local people looking for their first property or commuters seeking a home within easy reach of London.”
Once completed, the overall Linmere development will contribute more than £36m towards local education, transport, open space and leisure facilities.
Linmere will also supply hundreds of jobs for local people. The supermarket chain Lidl is set to build a new one million sq ft logistics warehouse next to the M1 as part of the first phase of the development, which will create up to 1,000 new jobs.
The first homes at Bellway at Linmere, off Sundon Road, are due to be released for sale early in 2021.
