Tara Group donates £80,000 towards St Basils’ housing support and new youth centre

The Noel Sweeney Foundation is proud to announce a donation of £80,000 to local charity, St Basils, to help open its new Coventry youth hub and renovate housing for those in need of support.

The Noel Sweeney Foundation is the Charitable Trust of Midlands-based Tara Group, which consists of Cameron Homes, Chasetown Civil Engineering and Keon Homes. The foundation was set up in memory of Tara Group founder, Noel Sweeney, and seeks to support local organisations and initiatives, such as St Basils, which is a dedicated charity that is committed to supporting young people aged between 16-25 years old that are facing or at the risk of homelessness.

Approximately half of the donation from The Noel Sweeney Foundation has been allocated towards construction works across St Basils’ various housing properties, with the remaining £40,000 invested towards the refurbishment of a building in Coventry to create a new youth centre, which was completed with assistance from Cameron Homes during late 2023.

The youth centre, located in Harp Place, Coventry, is purposed to provide shelter, education, employment support and mental health services to empower young people.

Charmaine Sweeney, Trustee at The Noel Sweeney Foundation, commented: “The Noel Sweeney Foundation aims to provide crucial support to local charities and initiatives to help enrichen communities in need.

“We are thrilled to be able to provide the support and funding for the new youth hub and the updates to the St Basils properties in the area, and look forward to the positive impact they will have.”

Liam Preston, Director of Housing at St Basils, added: “We are delighted with The Noel Sweeney Foundation’s significant donation to St Basils, which has enabled significant renovations to take place as well as the development of the youth hub.

“Our work is reliant on generous donations from local organisations and without these we wouldn’t be able to provide the service and support that we do to young individuals who need it the most.”

Anna Cuskin, Corporate Responsibility Manager at Coventry Building Society, which is the main funder of the Coventry Youth Hub: “This wonderful donation is already being put to great use to help young people in our community. The extra funding has helped us, St Basils and CentrePoint to transform the space we had dedicated for Coventry Youth Hub, and create a more welcoming and positive environment for young people in Coventry who need support. We’re really looking forward to the Hub’s official opening next month.”
