RSK Group has announced the acquisition of Mason Street Furniture (MSF), a nationwide highways infrastructure contractor specialising in street lighting, traffic signs and signals, highway technology systems, fibre networks, electric vehicle infrastructure and independent connections.

The acquisition adds specialist highways electrical and technology capability across RSK’s transportation, infrastructure and energy transition markets, while creating opportunities for more integrated delivery across the group’s transport infrastructure businesses.

MSF already works alongside Octavius Infrastructure, acquired by RSK last year, on highways projects, giving the two businesses a solid understanding of each other’s capabilities and delivery approach. This existing relationship provides a clear platform to offer clients a more integrated service across highways technology, electrical infrastructure and major transport programmes.

Founded and led by Managing Director Shaun Stacey, MSF employs 175 people across its Northamptonshire headquarters and County Durham office. The business delivers design, installation and maintenance services for clients across the highways and infrastructure sectors, combining directly employed electrical and civil engineering teams with a network of approved specialist subcontractors.

MSF works directly for National Highways as a Principal Contractor and delivers projects throughout the UK’s strategic road network and wider infrastructure markets. The company also supports many of the UK’s leading civil engineering contractors, including Balfour Beatty, GRAHAM, Esh Group, Costain and Winvic.

Recent projects include the following:

• A1 Birtley to Coal House Improvement Scheme: MSF delivered the signage, street lighting and technology packages for Costain’s improvement of approximately 4 miles of the A1 between junctions 65 and 67, including 270 LED lighting columns, 204 traffic signs and 22 technology assets.
• Tyne Bridge refurbishment: Working with Esh Group, MSF is helping to refurbish the Grade II listed Tyne Bridge in Newcastle. Its work includes a new 132-unit architectural lighting system, the refurbishment of 50 original cast iron lamp columns and 90 LED lantern upgrades.
• M25 Junction 28 Improvement Scheme: MSF delivered street lighting, signage and technology infrastructure for GRAHAM on this major interchange scheme, including 105 LED lighting columns, 232 verge signs, nine gantry signs and 25 technology assets.

Operating a predominantly self-delivery model, MSF completes around 95% of projects using its own directly employed teams. This approach helps the business maintain control over quality, programme certainty and safety standards while supporting consistent delivery for clients.

The company holds Highway Electrical Registration Scheme (HERS) Gold accreditation, placing it among a small group of organisations recognised for excellence in highway electrical registration and quality standards. MSF also maintains ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications alongside National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting (NICEIC), CHAS, Constructionline Gold, Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) and Renewable Energy Consumer Code (RECC) accreditations.

Its experienced workforce includes HERS-Gold-accredited electrical and civils crews, quantity surveyors, project managers and document controllers, supported by a leadership team spanning highways; technology; business development; finance; health, safety, environment, quality; and training.

MSF has delivered sustained growth through long-term client relationships and repeat work across the strategic road network and major contractor market. This established customer base gives the business a clear platform as demand increases for highways technology, electrical infrastructure and low-carbon transport solutions.
