Only 1 in 5 businesses are currently adopting AI technologies
A recent analysis of data from the ONS Business Insights report found that the number of UK businesses currently adopting AI technologies has increased by 5% since September of last year. Despite the improvement, this still means just over three-quarters (79%) of UK businesses are not embracing this technology.
The construction industry is reported to have one of the lowest adoption of AI technologies, with only 12% of businesses currently using some form of artificial intelligence.
The ONS data revealed that, 40% of the businesses that are using AI tools are doing so to ‘improve business operations’, with a further 24% using it to ‘provide, or personalise, products or services to customers’.
Recent years have seen notable advancements in the use of artificial intelligence in the building maintenance space, benefitting both facility owners and managers, as well as engineers and construction workers on-site.
Mike Talbot, CTO at SFG20, the industry standard for building maintenance, says:
“Recent developments in AI create the opportunity to revolutionise how the industry approaches the process of building maintenance. The biggest challenge for facilities managers is identifying what tasks must be performed on each asset in a building to preserve life, reduce cost, and stay compliant with the law – frequently, the ways of doing this have been very expensive and time-consuming, leading to missed tasks, non-compliance and significant exposure to risk.
AI can now shoulder the load of these tasks and reduce the time taken from months to hours by understanding both the asset and the SFG20 schedules that apply – automatically creating a link in many cases and providing the key questions to ask where not enough information exists, the entire process is streamlined and automated.”
“To find out more about how artificial intelligence can enhance building maintenance, use cases for AI, best industry practices and how it currently works onsite from an engineer’s perspective, hear me speak at the SFG20 Virtual Summit 2024 on Wednesday 20th November.
I will be joining a virtual panel composed of industry experts how you can implement AI technologies into your maintenance strategies.
