iLOQ’s smartphone-based access management solution receives IECEx and ATEX certification

Products in iLOQ’s new Ex-certified battery-free and keyless smart-locking product line have received certification ensuring they are safe to use in environments that contain hazardous gases and dust.

The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is an international standards organization that prepares and publishes international standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies. IECEx and ATEX are systems for certification to standards relating to equipment for use in explosive atmospheres containing hazardous gases and dust.

IECEx- and ATEX-certified oval, DIN and key tube cylinders, camlocks and padlocks are now available in iLOQ’s smartphone-based access management portfolio. They are approved for use in Explosion Protection Zones 1 and 2 (gas) and Explosion Protection Zones 21 and 22 (dust), where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur occasionally in normal operation.

iLOQ new Ex-certified smart locks conform to the standards set by the Ex-safety industry:

  • Directive 2014/34/EU
  • EN 60079-0 (Equipment for explosive atmospheres)
  • EN 60079-11 (Equipment protection by intrinsic safety ‘ib’)

“Explosion protection is a key area of safety engineering. iLOQ’s product family is under constant development and testing in order to uphold our operations to the standards set by the security industry,” states Kimmo Rantapirkola, Program Manager, R&D, iLOQ Oy.
