Clean Energy Training to Power the Construction Workforce
Barnsley College, Clean Energy Training Centre
New training opportunities are helping construction professionals develop the low-carbon skills needed to support the UK’s transition to clean energy and sustainable building.
As the UK moves towards its net zero targets, the construction sector is facing growing demand for workers with expertise in renewable technologies, retrofit and energy-efficient building systems. From solar PV installations to low-carbon heating and improved insulation, the skills required across the industry are evolving rapidly.
To support this shift, Barnsley College has launched a dedicated Clean Energy Training Centre, providing hands-on training designed to prepare both new and experienced professionals for careers in sustainable construction and renewable energy.
The centre offers practical training using industry-standard equipment and technologies, including solar PV systems, air and ground source heat pumps, ventilation systems and retrofit structures. These facilities allow those in industry to develop the skills needed to install, maintain and design modern low-carbon energy systems used across residential and commercial buildings.
Courses delivered at the centre cover key areas such as renewable heating, energy efficiency, ventilation and retrofit construction techniques, helping construction professionals and tradespeople upskill for the growing clean energy sector.
With demand for renewable energy specialists continuing to rise, training initiatives like this are helping ensure the construction workforce is ready to meet the challenges of the UK’s low-carbon future.
