Cityheart starts second Stopford Park Development

Construction of the second development has started at Cityheart’s Stopford Park scheme in Stockport.
Contractor Headoffice3 has been appointed to deliver Torkington which will include 122 1- and 2-bedroom BTR apartments with a roof top terrace and residents’ lounge. Designed by DAY Architects, Torkington is positioned on the site of the former Stockport College and the new building will retain the original concrete frame, substantially reducing the project’s carbon footprint.
Headoffice3 is bringing forward Torkington at the same time as Oak Construction Projects continue to build Bosden, the 62-unit open market sales element of Stopford Park.
Commenting on announcing the second contractor appointment in just two months Greg Ball, development director, Cityheart said: “The appointment of Headoffice3 to deliver Torkington follows hot on the heels of Oak Construction Projects starting work on Bosden. These two residential buildings will result in the fulfillment of both Build to Rent and open market sales in 2026.
“Torkington will set a new benchmark in Build to Rent residential living in Stockport. Stopford Park is a going to be an exciting space for a new community to live, work and socialise and we’re pleased to be making such good progress with both of our construction teams.”
Craig Smith, director of Headoffice3 added: “We are really pleased to be on site and have already made great progress on Torkington’s build programme. Stopford Park is a landmark Stockport development and we’re looking forward to continuing our collaboration with Cityheart and strengthening that relationship as we advance the project.
“We look forward to showcasing our expertise in large-scale refurbishment projects. By restoring and repurposing the building’s existing concrete frame rather than opting for demolition and new construction, we will significantly reduce the project’s carbon footprint.”
Stopford Park is a 442-apartment scheme on Greek Street and Wellington Road in the town centre. The third residential building Lyme, a 16-storey building comprising 258 apartments, will come forward next completing the residential elements for this new neighbourhood community.
The former Metropolitan Girls’ School on Greek Street will also be converted into a collaborative flexible workspace called Cheers & Smith, providing work space for local businesses. The development is designed around 3 acres of landscaped public realm including an art park. There will also be opportunities for commercial operators to take ground floor space at Torkington and activate the space overlooking the art park.
Torkington is set to complete in Autum 2026.The first homes at Bosden will be available to reserve off plan from in early Summer 2025.
