Barratt Homes helps prepare Dorset schoolchildren for future job interviews
Employees from a leading national housebuilder have been helping the next generation of employees prepare for working life on a visit to Queen Elizabeth School in Wimborne, Dorset.
A group of four Barratt Homes workers visited the secondary school last week and spoke to sixth form students about how to navigate interview questions from future employers.
In one-to-one ‘mock interview’ style sessions, the housebuilding team spent the day talking to pupils about meeting an employer for the first time, and how to make a good impression. Along with other businesses from the region, they discussed how the youngsters could prepare for interviews, gave them some confidence tips, and ran through a series of typical questions.
Hayley Jones, Careers Advice and Guidance Manager at Queen Elizabeth School, said the children enjoyed the day and that the feedback she received was all very positive.
She said: “Having worked in industry, I recognise the importance of equipping our young people with valuable interview skills. Providing our students with a professional yet ‘safe’ environment where they can practise these skills is something that we are really passionate about here at Queen Elizabeth’s School.
“We’re really grateful that the Barratt Homes team helped to support this event. It has meant that we’ve been able to make the interviews as real as possible for our children.”
Megan Hamlyn, Barratt Homes Marketing Manager, was one of the employees talking to the children on the day. She said she was delighted to have the opportunity to work with the region’s young people.
She said: “Interviews are something we all must go through to secure the job we want, which is why it’s good to be aware of what’s involved beforehand.
“It has been great to come and speak to the schoolchildren at QE School today. By working with the communities in which we are building we can help prepare the next generation of workers for their future careers, whether that be in construction or elsewhere.”
Queen Elizabeth’s School is a co-educational secondary school located in Wimborne Minster, Dorset.
