Tough To Talk targets construction companies to tackle increased suicide issue

Tough to Talk, one of the UK’s leading men’s mental health charities, has partnered with Leeds-based elearning and communications experts, Dynamic, to work with companies nationwide to address the issues that lead to male suicide.
The male suicide rate in England and Wales is more than twice that for women, as Tough To Talk Founder Steve Whittle, explains,
“Every day, 17 people take their own lives, with 12 of those being men. This creates a very urgent need to address the barriers that prevent men from speaking out about their struggles.”
One of the first modules created is a tailored digital resource for Balfour Beatty Vinci, which focusses on gambling, with more planned in for other construction firms. Steve Whittle talks about that module and the partnership, here.
In partnership with Dynamic, Tough To Talk are targeting more male-centric workplaces and spaces, highlighting some of the critical issues which can lead men to suicidal thoughts, including stress, financial difficulties, relationship problems and more.
Project Manager at Dynamic, Pete Johson, commented, “Tough To Talk’s materials are totally adaptable, easy to roll out and can be tailored to different issues and organisations. More and more companies are realising not just the ethics of investing in mental health education, but the value, too. It’s not only great for individuals, it’s just good business, too.
In terms of getting this material in front of men, they can undertake each module at their own convenience, in their own time, on any device—and in privacy. It’s a great medium in which to communicate some vital, life-saving messages.”
