A Norfolk energy and renewables company is celebrating raising over £43,000 in a record-breaking fundraising weekend.

Gasway, part of social housing provider Bromford Flagship, sent 11 teams made up of nearly 50 staff and partners to take on the annual Cumbrian Challenge in the Lake District. Together, they’ve raised an impressive £43,379.45 so far – contributing to a total of over £400,000 raised by everyone taking part in the event.
Andy Merrill, Gasway’s head of group and electrical operations, was full of enthusiasm at the success of the event and the turnout from Gasway teams.
Mr Merrill said: “This is a really special event for a lot of us and is a cause close to our hearts. We’re walking to show support, to raise money, and to make sure veterans know we remember and respect what they do.
“In a word, it’s inspiring, especially when you see everyone out there all for this cause. I couldn’t be prouder of the team.”
Organised by veterans’ charity Walking With The Wounded, which has a base in Stody, north Norfolk, the event is known as one of the UK’s toughest charity treks and features three mountainous routes.
The charity provides support and care to ex-service personnel and their families as they adapt to life after military service. This includes counselling and therapy, emergency energy top-ups, assistance with groceries and other essentials, and more.
Tony Hulton, Walking With The Wounded’s Chief Executive, said:
“The Cumbrian Challenge brings together such a wonderful community of people determined to support veterans who may be fighting their own battles.
“We are incredibly proud to be supporting those who have served, and we are incredibly proud to have had the teams from Gasway alongside us in this mission. Thank you for your amazing efforts!”
This year marks Gasway’s fifth as a principal sponsor of the event, and also its most successful yet – raising more than in previous years. Its parent company, Bromford Flagship, has signed the Armed Forces Covenant and has achieved Bronze status in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme.
