Bellway hosted a topping out ceremony to mark the completion of the concrete frame of the tallest building to date within Barking Riverside.

The developer welcomed representatives from key stakeholders to the event at its Horizons at Fielders Quarter development which marked the finishing of the top of the tallest apartment building within this phase – the 15-storey Hawkins Apartments.

Construction is progressing apace at Horizons – the fifth phase of Fielders Quarter – which will deliver 440 new one, two and three-bedroom homes across four buildings ranging from seven to 15 storeys in height.

Matthew Carpen, Managing Director of Barking Riverside Limited, David Burns, Managing Director of Bellway’s Barking Project Team, and Greg Allsop, Sales Director for Bellway North London, welcomed the delegation to the development.

Guests included representatives from master developers Barking Riverside Limited (BRL), as well as from Barking and Dagenham Council specialist planning organisation Be First, the National House Building Council (NHBC), structural engineers Gravity, architects RMA and contractors Statom Group.

David Burns said: “This topping out ceremony marks what is a major milestone in the construction of this development. It was great to share the event with representatives from organisations which have played an important role in the creation of this new neighbourhood.

“Horizons at Fielders Quarter offers a new view of the surrounding landscape and it was exciting to be able to see this first-hand and share it with our distinguished guests on the day.

“This will complete this section of the Fielders Quarter neighbourhood at the corner of Fielders Crescent and The Boulevard, with the tall buildings creating an impressive gateway to Fielders Quarter from the District Centre. The development will also complete the linear park which runs through Fielders Quarter towards the Riverside Campus.”

The Hawkins Apartments – a 15-storey structure facing towards Barking Riverside Overground Station, the River Thames and the planned District Centre – is the tallest of the four apartment buildings at Horizons at Fielders Quarter.

The Penney Apartments and the building comprising Ferdinand House and Hollingsworth House will both be 12 storeys in height, while the building comprising Chipperfield House, Nicholson House and Stevenson House will reach seven and eight storeys high.

David said: “The first homes in the Penney Apartments building were released for sale off-plan in July and construction is progressing well. The build programme should see us in a position to hand over the keys to the first residents in early 2027.”

Bellway is currently in the process of building more than 2,000 homes at Fielders Quarter as part of the wider regeneration of the former Barking Power Station site. Barking Riverside is regenerating the land which is earmarked to eventually deliver around 20,000 homes, subject to planning permission, with Bellway set to deliver a large proportion of this total.

There’s currently a range of one, two and three-bedroom apartments available to reserve off-plan at Horizons at Fielders Quarter, with prices starting from £270,000.
