Work begins to build new homes on former school land

Work has started to deliver new housing in Bordon

Construction work to transform land formerly occupied by a school and leisure centre into new housing has started in Bordon.

National housebuilder Miller Homes is to build 147 new homes on the 12-acre site, off Mill Chase Road, at its new development which is to be known as Mill Chase Park.

The land had been vacant since the Mill Chase Academy closed in 2019, and the school relocated in the village. East Hampshire District Council approved Miller Homes’ planning application to deliver a scheme of new homes and public open space in 2023.

Alongside the new homes, a 24-acre Suitable Area of Natural Greenspace (SANG) will also be created on the neighbouring Standford Grange Farm, while a further three acres of public open space has been earmarked by Miller Homes within the development itself.

Katrina Crawford, sales and marketing director at Miller Homes Southern, said: “This land in Bordon had been identified as a site for new housing within the council’s local plan, and we are really pleased to be delivering the homes for the community to replace the land left vacant by the school and leisure centre facility.

“We were keen to pay tribute to the site’s former use in our naming of the development – Mill Chase Park – and will be keen to engage with the community throughout our time in Bordon as the development progresses.

“With work now underway on site, we look forward to seeing the land transform into a new collection of desirable, energy-efficient and sustainable new homes for future generations to enjoy.

“We will share details on the opening of our development in due course with the first homes due to be released for sale in early 2024, as well as the opening of our show home property on the site.”

Miller Homes will build 96 homes for private sale, while a further 51 properties will be provided as affordable housing, including 12 homes to be sold under the First Homes scheme.

The development will comprise a mix of one to four-bedroom homes, including 122 houses and 25 apartments. The first homes are due to be completed in 2024.
