UK Launch for marXact Digital Surveying Solution, Helping Contractors Take Surveying Tasks Back In-house

Are you tired of waiting for surveyor availability for your projects? There’s now a new option that enables any worker to fill this gap, gaining flexibility whilst also saving projects significant time and cost.

After several successful years in Holland and Germany marXact, has now launched its industry proven UNI-Complete technology in the UK, enabling local contractors to easily and affordably bring many day-to-day surveying tasks in-house. The technology promises to help alleviate one of constructions biggest constraints – the shortage of qualified surveyors. With surveyors’ costing £500-£1,000 per day it also promises to reduce surveying costs.

As every contractor knows, getting a traditional surveyor on site at the right time can be a significant challenge, not to mention a major expense. The main reason for this is the massive skills shortage in surveying, leading to delays and cost overruns. In fact, according to a 2024 survey from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors this shortage is cited as the most significant skills shortage in UK construction.

Even when surveyors are available, this shortage means it is still necessary to wait for their appearance at the site and then wait again for a few more days for the data to be available for reports.

Using traditional methods, it is unlikely a contractor will be able to resolve this issue inhouse – the skills and necessary qualifications simply do not match. By enabling available inhouse workers to undertake surveying, marXact’s UNI-Complete package now gives UK contractors more control over the surveying process.

With just 30 minutes of training marXact’ s UNI-Complete package enables any worker on site to undertake many surveying tasks immediately. Whether it’s mapping out cables, measuring pipes, marking out fencing, or many other everyday tasks there’s no longer the need to wait for an external surveyor to arrive. Immediate access to the data via UNI-Cloud also means reports can be completed sooner. The greater flexibility and lower costs have made it a very popular solution with contractors and their customers throughout the Netherlands.

Built around three core components the system is designed to be intuitive, easy to use, and reliable. The UNI-GR2 GNSS Receiver is essentially a highly connected theodolite (see photo) with multi constellation support, universal compatibility, and an ability to achieve centimetre accuracy. Then there is the UNI-Collect Software running on an iOS or Android device – intuitive and easy to use for anyone familiar with a smartphone. Finally, UNI-Cloud & Support provides real time data access and management. If there are any challenges, then expert real time support is available from the marXact engineering team.

The increased flexibility of marXact’ s technology has proven especially popular with European contractors involved in installing and upgrading EV infrastructure and fibre networks. While traditional surveying companies also benefit from the freedom and flexibility the technology provides – junior employees can undertake more of the day-to-day tasks, freeing up senior team members to focus on more complex tasks.

The accessibility and simplicity of the marXact solution promises to be a real game changer for UK construction, not only reducing the costs and delays associated with waiting for external surveyors but also empowering fieldworkers with new skills and capabilities without compromising on accuracy or reliability. It also allows organisations to use resources more creatively – Is it a slow day at the office? Why not send the new trainee to the jobsite to help with the surveying! The integration of data with existing BIM/GIS software also opens many new potential opportunities.

Tommy van der Heijden, founder of marXact is excited about the opportunities the UK launch will bring ‘With our extensive experience with non-surveyors in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and forty other countries, we are ready to bring a game changing solution to the UK for everyone who wants to work more cost efficiently without losing accuracy.’
