St George’s Park in Hornchurch is a finalist in prestigious property awards

Bellway London’s St George’s Park development in Hornchurch has been shortlisted for a prestigious property award.
The regeneration scheme, which has transformed the former St George’s Hospital site in the town, is a finalist in the Resi Awards Development of the Year (350-500 homes) category.
Bellway London has created a new neighbourhood of 356 homes on the 29-acre site, which had stood vacant since the hospital closed in 2012. The scheme includes 76 affordable properties.
The development proved popular as soon as properties went on sale, with 40 plots reserved on opening day. There is now only one of the 280 properties for private sale still available to buy and purchasers have been predominantly from the local area, with 80 per cent of buyers from within a five-mile radius.
Emma Denton, Sales Director for Bellway London: “The proportion of buyers from the local area demonstrates how much a good quality development was needed and wanted in this area. There certainly was high demand from day one.”
The former hospital site was previously used to accommodate RAF personnel stationed at neighbouring RAF Hornchurch during the Second World War and this heritage was respected in the details and design of the scheme.
Emma said: “We understood that the site means a great deal to people in the area and is an important historical landmark.
“We were pleased to be able provide premises for the new RAF Hornchurch Heritage Centre by donating Suttons House, a former hospital building on site, to Hornchurch Aerodrome Historical Trust.
“And we incorporated many architectural details to echo the style and scale of the buildings that previously stood here.
“Yet St George’s Park is a modern development that has transformed a brownfield site with energy-efficient homes and plenty of green open space on site, including seven play areas.
“This is an exceptional development and so we are very pleased that it has received the recognition of being a finalist in the Resi Awards.”
The Resi Awards are organised by Property Week and will be held on Wednesday 7 May at the Grosvenor House Hotel, in London.
There is one property remaining for sale at St George’s Park – a two-bedroom apartment in Bellway London’s Rose style within the Gloster Court apartment building. It is currently priced at £397,000.
There is also another coming soon site in Romford, The Comptons, which will offer one, two and three-bedroom apartments and three and four bedroom homes.
