Planning consent granted for 146 homes in Farnham
New homes and the creation of a large open space will be delivered as part of a planning agreement in Farnham.
Waverley Borough Council unanimously approved the plans by national housebuilder Miller Homes to build 146 properties on land off Waverley Lane, west of Old Compton Lane, to the east of the town.
The developer, partnering with land and planning specialists Wates Developments to deliver the scheme, will provide 54 affordable homes, including a mix of apartments and houses, at the 31-acre site.
In addition to new housing, Miller Homes has also put forward the provision of a Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace (SANG) to the south east of the proposed homes development.
The decision to grant planning consent was determined at the council’s planning committee meeting on Wednesday, 13 May.
David Brown, managing director of Miller Homes Southern, said: “We are naturally very pleased to have secured reserved matters planning permission to deliver a well-considered scheme of 146 new homes in a fantastic location within South Farnham.
“Our new homes off Waverley Lane will bring a great variety of new homes to the market, while also improving local facilities through an on-site play area and the adjacent SANG which will feature trails and a significant amount of landscaping, to support existing tree and green space retention throughout the site.
“We are pleased to have received the resolution to grant permission unanimously via Waverley Borough Council’s planning committee, and would thank all engaged parties and stakeholders in the process for working with ourselves and Wates Developments, our joint venture partners on the site.
“Miller Homes is now looking forward to putting the first spade in the ground and executing on our commitment to the delivery of sustainable new housing in Farnham, a town in which we’re already providing new homes at our Deer Park development off Hale Road.”
Miller Homes will build a mix of one to five-bedroom properties at its development – to be known as Waverley Gardens – and expects to begin construction work on the site in the coming weeks.
The first homes are due to be completed by the end of 2026, with a showhome set to open on the development prior to the first confirmed occupation.
Natalie Flint, development partnering and marketing director for Wates Land and Developments, said: “We’re thrilled to have partnered with Miller Homes on the site at Waverley Lane.
“Wates is committed to reimagining places for people to thrive, and we look forward to seeing the plans come to life and help provide much-needed housing and new green space to the area.
“The scheme will provide real value for the local community and reflects our continued investment in areas where we can create lasting and positive impact.”
