Pick Everard strengthens culture and heritage team with senior appointment
Leading multi-disciplinary consultancy Pick Everard has appointed a new associate director to lead its work on culture and heritage and support the firm’s strategic growth into the future.
Paul West adds more than two decades of experience in heritage conservation to the firm, bringing an extensive background specialising in super-prime residential properties, galleries, and the conservation of landmark heritage sites. Throughout his career, he has contributed to conserving some of the UK’s most significant historic sites, including the Houses of Parliament, the National Gallery, and the restorations of both Tower of London and Charles Darwin’s House.
In his new role as associate director, Paul will focus on expanding the team’s technical expertise, devising strategies for managing risks associated with historic buildings, while also widening the firm’s sector portfolio. As a chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and a certified building conservation specialist, Paul is also well-equipped to lead the training and chartership program to support Pick Everard’s strong and enthusiastic graduate cohort.
Speaking on his new position, Paul said: “Joining Pick Everard’s culture and heritage team is an exciting opportunity, particularly given the firm’s involvement in projects such as Victoria Tower and Hampton Court along with the National Space Centre and the King Richard III Visitors Centre more locally to our headquarters in Leicester.
“With a careful and considered approach our built heritage can remain in use while retaining its historical significance. I look forward to working with the talented team and contributing to the technical solutions on these challenging projects. I’m keen to ensure any interventions we make are justified, appropriate, and undertaken correctly to safeguard our built heritage for future generations to enjoy as we do.”
Paul’s commitment to heritage conservation extends beyond his role at Pick Everard. He is also an assessor for the Institute of Clerk of Works and Construction Inspectorate as well as a lecturer in building conservation at the University of York’s MSc course at the Weald and Downland Museum.
With expertise in culture and heritage, Pick Everard works with prestigious clients to deliver solutions that meet the needs of modern-day workplaces and visitor attractions whilst sensitively maintaining and enhancing their historic significance.
Matthew Appleton, strategic account director for culture and heritage at Pick Everard, said: “Paul’s vast experience and dedication to heritage conservation is invaluable as we expand our capabilities and continue delivering projects of historical and cultural importance with the technical precision and care we have a reputation for.”
