New homes plan approved for Farnham development
A development of 65 new homes will be built in Farnham, after planning permission was granted for the scheme.
Waverley Borough Council has given the green light to Miller Homes to build the new homes on a 7.7-acre piece of land off Hale Road, neighbouring Farnham Park and The Six Bells public house, in an area known as The Hawthorns.
The development will be named Deer Park and will include a large area of public open space to the north of the site which, coupled with new pedestrian and cycleway links, will result in a biodiversity net gain on the land.
Miller Homes is set to begin construction work shortly and will be building a mix of houses and apartments, ranging in size from one-bedroom to four-bedrooms. The national housebuilder will sell 39 homes on the open market and will build 26 properties to be provided as affordable housing, including seven to be sold via the First Homes scheme.
David Brown, managing director of Miller Homes Southern, said: “We have worked closely with key stakeholders to prepare our planning application for a development in Farnham which we believe to be of value to the area, so we are very pleased to now have the opportunity to deliver that vision.
“Our plans were approved by Waverley Borough Council to build 65 new homes, of which 26 will be provided as affordable homes, including seven First Homes.
“There will be sustainability measures throughout the development, including in our building materials and strategy, implementing the use of air source heat pumps and waste water heat recovery technology at Deer Park.
“Meanwhile, a significant area of public open space, which complements the existing surroundings of the site, will be created by Miller Homes in Farnham, including a dedicated play area. The retention and enhancement of hedgerows, and the planting of new trees, will add further ecological benefit towards a biodiversity net gain on the site.
“New residents will be able to enjoy the neighbouring 320-acre Farnham Park, providing a rural, countryside feel to the development, while the proximity to Farnham town centre, train station and the A31 just a few minutes’ drive from the site will provide great flexibility and commutability.
“We are now focusing on beginning construction work and we will be releasing details of the homes which will be available to buy in the coming months.”
Car parking spaces will be provided throughout the site through private driveways and public parking areas, and every home will have direct access to an electric vehicle charging point.
