Millcroft Hits the Right Note for Iconic Record Label HQ Refurb

Millcroft, the specialist in complex scaffolding and access solutions, has been awarded a £380,000 contract by contractor GRAHAM to provide all internal and external scaffolding and protective gantries for the £25 million Gramophone Works project on the banks of the Grand Union Canal.

Fast becoming a highly sought-after waterside location in London, the Grand Union Canal is the focus of significant regeneration and the Gramophone Works project involves the renaissance of the former HQ of reggae label, Trojan Records, as an 85,000 sq ft contemporary office space in a development by Resolution Property.

Phase two of the scheme involves refurbishment of the existing main canal-side building, which will be extended with a lightweight timber frame extension around the perimeter of the existing footprint, as well as new cladding and curtain walling to create a completely new building envelope and facades. Millcroft will design and supply the scaffolding required for the installation of the cladding, along with a protective gantry along the bank of the canal to ensure safe access for pedestrians while the works take place.

Internally, Millcroft’s remit includes design and construction of birdcage scaffolds to enable demolition works, lift shaft refurbishment and mechanical and electrical installation.

Paul Clarke, Project Surveyor for GRAHAM, comments: “This is a unique refurbishment project requiring extensive scaffolding to enable the complex internal and external construction work to take place, while ensuring the safety of both our site team and the general public.

“Millcroft’s design and installation capabilities mean that we can rely on a flexible scaffolding solution that can be adapted as our needs change throughout the project.”
