Leading industry partnership to deliver new endoscopy facility at Poole Hospital

Leading offsite manufacturer, Premier Modular and P+HS Architects have partnered to deliver a new modular endoscopy centre, with the first phase of the installation now underway on site. The new centre is part of University Hospitals Dorset’s (UHD) Integrated Care System long-term vision for the Community Diagnostic Centres programme.
The new, state-of-the-art building will expand UHD’s endoscopy services at Poole Hospital, spanning three storeys, including six endoscopy procedure and associated rooms, training and seminar rooms and decontamination units. The new centre will enable UHD to treat more patients, reduce waiting times, enhance patient experiences and train the next generation of endoscopy professionals in Dorset.
Based in East Yorkshire, Premier Modular, is providing a full turnkey service for the 59 module project which will be installed over two phases, with completion expected early next year. The new facility will feature a unique green cladding that blends with nature, as well as PV solar panels along the available roof space boosting the sustainability credentials of the building.
Leading the design, P+HS Architects have developed a bespoke facility that responds to the unique character of the Poole Hospital site. The design prioritises both therapeutic and practical needs, with carefully planned clinical patient flows and a welcoming, human-scaled environment. Public consultations, including feedback from neighbours and special interest groups, shaped the building’s layout and design, creating a calming space that connects users with nature through framed views of the surrounding landscape.
David Harris, CEO at Premier Modular, said: “Having a long working partnership with P+HS Architects, it’s great to partner with them on the delivery of the new endoscopy centre. Our work together will provide the community around Poole and the Dorset area with further services that will increase the inflow of patients in a safe and timely manner.
“Our work for UHD, delivered under the NHS Shared Business Services Modular Buildings framework – recently renewed with our reappointment – demonstrates how this cost-effective procurement route provides rapid access to modular construction solutions that support urgent infrastructure needs.”
James Almond, Managing Director at P+HS Architects, said: “We’re incredibly proud to be working with UHD and Premier Modular on this important expansion of endoscopy services at Poole. We’ve brought together complex clinical requirements in a building that still feels warm, human and therapeutic.
“Our experience in modern methods of construction has enabled us to deliver a bespoke modular design that responds to the site’s challenges and not only works technically, but fits the needs of the people who will use it. It’s fantastic to see the first modules now arriving on site and the building beginning to take shape.”
