GROUND ENGINEERING SPECIALIST MAINMARK MAKES SENIOR APPOINTMENT

MAINMARK Ground Engineering (UK), the leading ground engineering and asset preservation provider, has continued its UK growth with the senior appointment of John McBey as business development manager.

John brings almost three decades of experience to the role, having first started his career in 1996 in Scotland. He then moved down to the Midlands in 2017 to continue his career in business development at OYO UK, VolkerLaser, and OnSite Specialist Maintenance.

In his new role, his responsibilities cover driving Mainmark’s strategic growth in the UK through identifying new business leads and nurturing existing business relationships.

Mainmark specialises in ground improvement, re-levelling, void filling, slab lifting, subsidence, as well as sinkhole repair and pipe abandonment.

John said: “For me it’s all about relationships. I pride myself on speaking to people, being personable, and being consistent. I find it’s a business where it’s important and worthwhile to always be asking questions, always discovering their exact needs so that we can answer them just as exactly.

“I’d measure a successful first year by attaining as many high-quality leads as possible that will help boost Mainmark’s profile in the UK further. I want to push for our processes to be above and beyond the industry standard. Even if we feel an opportunity isn’t ultimately for us, we still want to invite people to our sites, show them our values and offering. I want to go the extra mile, to have that extra tenacity.

“I’ve had a very varied sales career ranging from yachts, motorcycles, modular buildings, and now ground improvement. I wanted to move into something that’s larger and to a business that’s an industry leader, and that’s what attracted me to Mainmark.”

Before moving into business development, John founded and operated his own company, Hudson Glen Leisure Homes, further broadening his range of experience and skills that he is bringing to Mainmark.

“Running my own business gave me a better sense of business acumen where I can look at the bigger picture. I’m less afraid to price jobs for what they’re worth now because I’m confident our delivery will speak for itself and show its own worth. There’s a lot of moving parts to any business and so having been in the position at the top, I’ve got a clearer understanding of how they fit together.”

Mainmark was founded in 1989 and has successfully delivered more than 80,000 award winning projects across residential, commercial, infrastructure, and mining sectors across its 18 offices around the world. Mainmark’s UK arm is headquartered in Milton Keynes, supplying England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland with its patented, innovative, market leading solutions.

David Hedley, infrastructure and commercial lead at Mainmark, said: “John is a brilliant addition to our team who has already hit the ground running and provided us with his unique insight and expertise. We didn’t have an exact role for John initially, but having met and talked with him we created a new one because we knew he would be an excellent and beneficial fit for us. We’re looking forward massively to seeing what he brings to the table next.”
