Gleeds-led joint venture wins new hospital contract in Peru

The UK Healthcare Alliance (UKHA), a joint venture comprising Gleeds, AECOM and Currie & Brown, has been named programme manager for a new high-complexity hospital in Peru.

The scheme is the third to be commissioned via a Government-to-Government (G2G) agreement for the Programa Nacional de Inversiones en Salud (PRONIS), a Peruvian Ministry of Health (MINSA) initiative.

Following successful appointments to regional hospitals in Piura and Trujillo, the UKHA will now deliver the new Guillermo Díaz de la Vega Hospital in Abancay, Apurímac.

The project will involve the construction of an 8,000 m2 temporary hospital to guarantee continuity of services, as well as knowledge transfer initiatives to ensure the highest standards for future provision of healthcare infrastructure in the region.

The Guillermo Díaz de la Vega Hospital is the only secondary care hospital in the Apurímac region, serving over 480,000 residents, most of whom live in rural areas. The new hospital will offer patients access to significantly improved facilities, including state-of-the-art technology and equipment, minimising the need for travel to Lima for specialised treatments.

Ken Mazey, Project Director for the UKHA at Gleeds, said;

This appointment reflects the Peruvian government’s confidence in our ability to deliver high-specification healthcare infrastructure. We are proud to be entrusted with the delivery of another complex hospital and take our responsibility to the people of Apurimac incredibly seriously. The G2G model allows us to provide knowledge transfer, transparency mechanisms and agility in the execution of all projects, and we are committed to applying the same good practices and quality standards at the Guillermo Díaz de la Vega Regional Hospital.”

“UKHA would like to acknowledge the support and assistance provided by the British Embassy and their hard-working staff in achieving this further win, without whom it would not have been possible,” he went on to add.
