Later this month, a 20-strong team will take on the highest peak in Wales to raise vital funds for Home-Start West Berkshire.

15 staff from Newbury construction firm Helix Group will be joined by five employees from Home-Start to complete the sponsored hike, which takes place on 23 September. The team is taking on the challenge aiming to raise £5,000 for the charity cause.

Home-Start West Berkshire, which has offered emotional and practical support to over 300 local families, has been a corporate partner of Helix Group since 2018.

During this time, Helix has raised almost £30,000 for the charity, through various fundraising activities and challenges that include team hikes and a half-marathon.

The Snowdon trek will mark the third time Helix Group have conquered a mountain in aid of Home-Start, with staff previously scaling Snowdon in 2019 and Pen y Fan in 2021.

Commenting on the importance of engaging with local causes, Nic Davies, Managing Director at Helix Group, said: “Since Helix was founded, we have pushed ourselves to develop a business that supports our local community. This is part of our Building Respect approach, which also promotes safety, wellbeing, and sustainability across everything we do as a business.

“It has been fantastic to see the number of hikers grow year-on-year. We took nine of the team to Pen y Fan last year, so 15 of us going to Snowdon this year is testament to our team’s continued commitment to supporting community causes.”

This year’s fundraising efforts will go towards Home-Start’s Preventing Family Poverty campaign, which will support families across West Berkshire throughout the cost-of-living crisis.

Grace Green, Director of Home-Start West Berkshire, said: “We can’t emphasise enough the difference that having this support means to Home-Start West Berkshire. This year we have an exceptionally high number of families experiencing financial hardship and this is set to increase into the winter months. Support from the Helix Team helps us to reach more families when it is needed the most. Thank you to all the team at Helix Limited, we are delighted to be joining you.”We greatly appreciate any donation.
