B&K wins Altrincham hospital redevelopment
Bowmer & Kirkland has won a contract worth around £20m to build a new health and wellbeing centre on the site of the former Altrincham General Hospital.
Manchester property firm Citybranch is developing the 88,000 sq ft hub project, which will be let NHS Property Services on a 30-year income strip lease, a structure that allows the NHS to acquire the freehold interest at the end of the period for £1.
B&K is due to complete the new healthcare facility to be known as the South Trafford Health & Wellbeing Centre in Spring 2018.
The site, within the Old Market Place Conservation Area of Altrincham, has been cleared of eight former hospital buildings for work to start in March.
The four-storey clinical development will also incorporate a new Altrincham library and tourist information centre, the Trafford co-ordination centre, a mix of community services and therapies, a pharmacy, clinical suites and training areas, minor surgery suite, as well as retail space and a café.
