New development now taking shape on former Royal Mail sorting office site
New apartment buildings are now taking shape on the site of the former Royal Mail sorting office in Chelmsford.
Bellway Essex is building 203 one and two-bedroom apartments as part of the regeneration of this landmark site off Victoria Road. The development, known as Novello, will feature low-rise apartment buildings three to five storeys high, set around a landscaped urban piazza and pocket park.
Work on site started earlier this year, after Bellway’s plans for the site were approved by Chelmsford City Council. The site had been derelict since the sorting office closed in 2014.
This is Bellway’s latest development in Chelmsford, with all of the 474 apartments at the housebuilder’s Marconi Evolution development, off New Street, now completed.
The first apartments at Novello will be released for sale exclusively at Bellway’s Homebuyers Event in London later this month, with a sales centre opening on Saturday 26th October.
Bellway Essex Head of Sales Jenny Walker said: “There’s been a real boom in the demand for apartments in Chelmsford, which we’ve most recently seen at Marconi Evolution, and we believe Novello will be just as successful. Like Marconi Evolution, it’s within easy walking distance of the city centre and the railway station, which has services into London Liverpool Street in just 35 minutes.
“It’s good for local people working in the city and good for London homebuyers looking to move out of the capital but keen to keep their commute to a minimum!
“Our two developments are also creating a positive legacy in Chelmsford, making a key contribution to the regeneration of the area.
“They’re bringing young professionals into the heart of the city and creating a real buzz about its shops, its restaurants and its places of entertainment.”
As well as helping rejuvenate a former brownfield site and providing a substantial number of affordable homes, Bellway is also making significant financial investment in Chelmsford, with contributions of around £2.3 million going back into the city, including contributions towards cycle parking and highway improvements.
The first plots at Novello will be released for sale at Bellway’s Homebuyers Event at the London Hilton Tower Bridge Hotel, on Friday, October 18, and Saturday, October 19.
