Kate Murray, founder and CEO of housing technology company Ubrix, has been recognised in the Innovate UK Women in Innovation Awards, one of the most competitive innovation programmes in the country. Nearly 1,600 businesses applied from every sector across the UK. Only 100 were selected.

The Women in Innovation Awards, run by Innovate UK, the UK’s national innovation agency, recognise women founders leading businesses with the potential to deliver significant economic and societal impact. Applications are assessed by an expert panel against the scale of the problem being solved, the strength of the solution, the market opportunity and the capability of the founder.

Murray’s application addressed the fragmentation crisis in UK residential construction, where sales, build and aftercare typically run on disconnected systems, with data and accountability lost at every handover. Ubrix, her County Durham based SaaS platform, gives housebuilders, principal contractors, housing associations and local authorities one platform for the full plot lifecycle, from reservation through to end of defects.

A national panel of innovation experts looked at how this industry delivers homes, saw the cost of fragmented systems, and backed our answer to it. Our development pipeline is shaped by the builders, contractors and aftercare teams who live this problem every day. This award tells them the way housing is delivered is changing, and it tells the industry where that change is coming from.”

The recognition includes a 12-month bespoke business support package and access to Innovate UK’s national innovation network.
