APS ACADEMY LAUNCHES TO DRIVE COMPETENCE AND SAFER OUTCOMES

The Association for Project Safety (APS) has announced the launch of an innovative knowledge academy, established as a dedicated learning and development hub to boost professional competence in key areas of health and safety and building safety risk management.

The APS Academy begins its journey with an initial series of three specialist courses aimed at CDM practitioners, designed to close skill gaps and support ongoing professional development.

These cover:

  • Fire Safety in the CDM Pre-Construction Phase (England)
  • Temporary Works for CDM Practitioners
  • Building Regulations (England)

Each course includes a timed assessment and certificate, is developed and delivered by industry experts, peer-reviewed by APS Fellows and awards membership points to non-members.

Speaking on the launch, Andrew Leslie, APS CEO, commented:

“The launch of the APS Academy marks a key milestone in supporting professionals across the sector. As the Building Regulations in England now require anyone carrying out any building work or design work to be competent, it is essential that APS provides accessible, robust learning.

“The new learning hub ensures duty-holders and design professionals are not only compliant, but also confident, capable, and delivering leadership in Building Safety”

This initiative aligns with APS’s broader strategy of enhancing member support and reinforcing professional competence across the built environment sector. CDM has always incorporated competence requirements for its duty-holders, and this has become even more critical in the wake of the amended Building Regulations 2010 (England) and the associated demand for accountable, competent duty-holders.”
