Women in Logistics UK Uses IMHX as Platform to Increase Female Representation in the Industry

Women in Logistics UK, a supporting partner of the upcoming IMHX Logistics event at the NEC Birmingham, has confirmed how vital industry events are at increasing female industry visibility.

Founded in 2008 by Ruth Waring and Clare Bottle, Women in Logistics UK has grown to over 200 members with 7 supporting industry sponsors, and an 8,000-strong LinkedIn community. The organisation was created to address the isolation many women experience in the logistics sector, where currently only 11% of leadership roles are held by women.

“It’s about choosing to put ourselves out there,” says Ruth Waring, Founder of Women in Logistics UK. “We’ve just launched a campaign to encourage our members to state that they are willing to give their opinions on different industry topics, ensuring women’s voices are heard alongside their male counterparts.”

The organization offers several key benefits to members:

  • Networking opportunities including walking networking events designed to be less intimidating than traditional formats
  • Professional and personal development events
  • Mentoring exchanges through a dedicated WhatsApp group
  • Industry visibility through speaking opportunities and panel representation

Women in Logistics UK emphasizes that addressing gender imbalance requires effort from both women and industry leaders.

“It’s a two-way street,” Waring explains. “Women can put themselves forward, but those in the industry also need to make more effort to improve their networks to include women.”

The organization will be exhibiting at the IMHX Logistics event at the NEC in Birmingham from September 9-11, 2025, and will host a networking lunch at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, September 10th at the UK Warehousing Association stand (A125).

IMHX is the UK’s largest event for logistics and supply chain professionals involved in the handling, movement, and transportation of goods across the UK and beyond. Taking place in the heart of the country’s “logistics golden triangle,” the event brings together the intralogistics and supply chain communities for three days of networking, insight, and innovation.

Emma Howell, Content Director, IMHX, and Ruth Waring, Founder of Women in Logistics, recorded the full conversation on The Logistics Podcast, which covers the UK warehousing and supply chain sectors.
