Altrad Rmd Kwikform launches Tubeshor 1370: The World’s Largest Propietary Ground Shoring Pro

Temporary works specialist, Altrad RMD Kwikform (Altrad RMDK), has launched the Tubeshor 1370, the latest and largest edition to the Tubeshor propping system range. With a 1370mm diameter and 16mm grade S460 tube, this ground shoring solution is designed to handle axial loads of up to 15,000kN, addressing the increasing demands of deep basement excavations and large-scale infrastructure projects.
The development of the innovative 1370mm solution came as a response to load requirements and site restraints on a basement project in London where axial loads exceeded the capabilities of the Tubeshor 1060. With load duty and road transport weight limitations to consider, the company used its engineering prowess to create a system that puts safety first, whilst providing the ultimate solution for customers to use on large scale projects.
The Tubeshor propping system was originally designed in four sizes, 320, 460, 610, and 1060 millimetre diameter tubes, with unique end fittings and the ability to use tapered adapters to maximise prop load efficiency.
Transportability was a main factor in determining the size of this new prop. A feasibility study found that 1370mm is the maximum tube diameter for efficient road transport, allowing for three 11.52m-long extensions to be transported on a standard flatbed lorry. The secure stacking system features nested and bolted ring-flanges and welded support nibs to ensure stability during transport and help reduce high-level access requirements, improving site safety.
Tubeshor 1370 is designed in accordance with EC3, uses S460 steel and is manufactured in accordance with EN1090, all of which enables CE and UKCA certification. The system includes multiple high-performance end fittings designed to maximise efficiency and load bearing capacity, including a 15,000kN grout-filled flat jack, Swivel Unit, Shear Stop, Spherical Bearer, and an adjustable Screw Jack.
The newly developed components enhance adaptability, versatility and ensure aligned loading. A 9000kN e-Pin is also in development, allowing for wireless load monitoring, offering real-time data on prop loading in-situ.
Tubeshor 1370 is capable of handling 7300kN axial loads at 47m prop length, 5,000kN at 59m, and 2,000kN at 70m with tapered pre-camber shims boosting load-carrying capacity at longer lengths.
Ian Fryer, Global Product Innovation Director at Altrad RMD Kwikform said:
“CE-marked Tubeshor equipment has been widely used on major infrastructure projects, including HS2 and large basement excavations in cities around the World. The demand for wider prop spacing to improve site access, combined with increasing geotechnical loads, has driven the development of higher capacity propping solutions. Tubeshor 1370 expands the envelope of what can be achieved using system equipment, reducing the need for cutting and welding on site and simplifying the support of even the deepest basement digs.”
