Costain secures place on ten-year Sizewell C framework

Costain, the infrastructure solutions company, has been awarded a multi-million-pound framework to support the construction of Sizewell C.

The ten-year framework will see Costain provide resource across three areas: delivery integration, quality and engineering integration. The 3.2-gigawatt nuclear power station will support a more resilient and decarbonised UK, and is expected to be one of the country’s biggest net zero projects by helping to generate low-carbon electricity for six million homes.

Costain will apply its expertise to ensure best-in-class delivery in areas including health and safety, programme management and quality control, all in close partnership with Sizewell C, its delivery partners and the local supply chain. Costain will also work with Sizewell C to unlock opportunities that support the growth of skills in the sector, including for early careers professionals, to build the next generation of talent.

Bob Anstey, sector director, defence and nuclear energy at Costain, commented: “This project is a vital part of creating a sustainable future. We have a long and successful track record in delivering for our civil nuclear customers, with a highly qualified and experienced workforce that consistently works to the highest safety and quality standards.

“A key part of our role will be to help ensure the project leaves a positive legacy, and we look forward to working closely with Sizewell C on a range of social value and employment initiatives that improve lives and provide long-term benefits to local communities.”

Nigel Cann, joint managing director, Sizewell C Ltd, said: “Sizewell C is an important project in the development of a greener energy system in the UK that will strengthen energy security and provide clean, reliable electricity for millions.

“We welcome Costain to the Sizewell C supplier family. We are committed to providing thousands of great jobs and career development opportunities and we’re looking forward to working with our suppliers to boost skills, promote a diverse workforce and spread opportunities as widely as possible.”

Costain has a long track record of delivering best-in-class project controls and programme management in the nuclear energy sector. This includes supporting EDF Energy on its fleet of eight nuclear power stations and headquarters, which resulted in Costain being named as Global Project Controls Consultancy of the Year at the Project Controls Expo Awards in 2024.

Costain is also a partner of the Nuclear Graduates programme, carried out by Energus on behalf of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, which helps support and grow the next generation of talent in the civil nuclear industry.
