Is your safety culture where it needs to be?
IOSH for Business has launched a new safety and health programme that can help construction companies improve their culture, reputation and profitability.
Business assurance certification (BAC) is a clear three-stage process, providing full support and independent verification.
It has been developed by IOSH for Business, a dedicated team within the Chartered body for health and safety professionals that works with organisations around the world to raise standards and productivity alike.
Support, self-assessment and strategy
Through the new BAC programme, IOSH for Business experts can review your occupational safety and health cultural maturity, assessing how much progress your company has made and equipping you with specialist self-assessment software so you can identify any areas of concern.
Spanning your governance and leadership, systems and process, and people and culture, BAC offers you a clearer picture of what’s really happening across your whole business.
Targeted, strategic improvements can then be made that protect people and reduce inefficiency, either by your internal team or by collaborating with an IOSH training provider who can share an objective perspective.
Calling all in construction
Companies from a wide range of industries are already turning to BAC from IOSH for Business in their efforts to improve their safety and health cultures.
Grace Ko, Assistant Director at footwear manufacturer Changshin, said: “The process helped us to identify small areas which are easy to miss and where we can improve our safety culture.
“IOSH certification is proof of our commitment to worker safety and gives confidence to our customers.”
Businesses in the construction field in particular are also being urged to reap its rewards.
Top for training
IOSH already runs popular training courses for both workers and managers in construction, as a trusted partner of thousands of companies in the sector.
These specialist training programmes can help improve standards on site and ensure everyone’s safety, with all IOSH’s occupational safety and health qualifications created with policymakers and business leaders who still work in the industry.
The aim is to both give individuals the knowledge they need to keep everyone safe and add real value to businesses – with research showing that effective training programmes can reduce the cost of accidents and illness by up to 40 per cent.
In 2022-23 alone, there were 45 fatalities in UK construction, as well as 53,000 non-fatal injuries and 69,000 cases of work-related ill health.
Ready to get certified?
In addition to improving their safety and health culture, construction companies completing BAC with IOSH for Business will receive a certificate valid for three years from one of four levels of achievement: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.
