Esh Construction has completed major upgrades to communal areas on behalf of Riverside.

Residents and staff of Greenfield in Hull have celebrated the completion of a refurbishment programme at the Retirement Living scheme ahead of the festive season.

Registered social housing provider, Riverside, appointed Esh Construction to deliver the £900,000 scheme as part of a wider programme of investment into Retirement Living accommodation across the country.

The project involved the refurbishment of key mechanical and electrical (M&E) systems within communal areas at Greenfield, including full redecoration and new flooring as well as a partial refurbishment of a guest room, the laundry room and the communal kitchen.

A new conservatory has been constructed and an internal space created for residents’ scooters, meaning they no longer need to access their mobility scooters through an external garage.

Simon Scott, Construction Manager at Esh Construction, said: “Carrying out works like these within an occupied building can naturally cause some disruption, and we are thankful to the residents and staff at Greenfield for their patience and cooperation during this time. Julie Aryiku went above and beyond to assist the team, and we developed a key relationship with her to facilitate the needs of the project.

“We are proud to collaborate with Riverside to enhance and secure the future of vital social housing developments.”

Further works included major upgrades to the fire alarm system, lighting and the replacement of all communal fire doors and flat entrance doors. External fencing and footpath improvements were actioned within the grounds, while the car park was also reconfigured and resurfaced.

A festive-themed celebration event with residents took place on completion of the works with representatives from Esh Construction, Riverside and Storm Tempest in attendance. Resident Geoff Howlett said: “During all the refurbishment, tenants were kept informed of where and when work was being carried out by the Esh Project Manager and the Customer Experience Coordinator, as well as the Greenfield Scheme Manager. Along with the contract tradespersons, their courtesy and help to tenants during this time was greatly appreciated and resulted in disruption being kept to a minimum. The result is a brand new, modern living environment that we can be proud of.”

Julie Aryiku, Riverside’s Retirement Living Coordinator at Greenfield, added: “Now the work has been completed, the scheme is so much brighter and more aesthetically pleasing. Having an internal scooter room has made it so much easier for tenants with mobility difficulties to be more independent. The tenants are enjoying the refurbishment and look forward to meeting up in the communal lounge for events and activities.”

With the support of IT firm, TIEVA, Esh Construction donated 12 tablets to residents allowing them to access the internet, take photographs, message or call family and friends.
